In New Jersey, the Department of Health and Senior Services, Office of Emergency Management, issued an Epinephrine Auto Injector Interim Policy in December, 2006. The interim policy allows EMT-Basics (the largest type of EMT's in the state) to carry and administer epinephrine auto-injectors for the treatment of anaphylaxis. It is important to note, however, that the policy is a voluntary one. A number of local ambulance squads have adopted the policy, but the majority of squads throughout NJ still do not fully authorize EMT-Basics to carry and administer epinephrine. Stafford squad 38 is now authorized to carry epinephrine in our rigs, however EMT's must attend a mandatory class to administer epinephrine.
